CTE Students Shine at NYS SkillsUSA - Law Enforcement Students Heading to Nationals!

From April 26 through 28, thirty-one CTE students who are SkillsUSA members traveled to Syracuse for the annual SkillsUSA New York State Competition at the NYS Fairgrounds. The SkillsUSA Championships are competitive events showcasing the best practices and skills of CTE students in the nation. The philosophy behind the events is to reward excellence in students, as well as to keep their career and technical education relevant to current industry needs. This year approximately 2500 students from across New York State competed at the championships. 

The OU BOCES CTE Crime Scene Investigation team, Ashley LaTassa, Daniella Pirrone and Sierra Mitts, students in the Security Careers Academy/Law Enforcement program, placed first in their competition and will be preparing for the National SkillsUSA Competition to be held in Louisville, KT in June. Ashley is a second-year Law Enforcement student from Monroe-Woodbury HS, Daniella is a second-year Law Enforcement student from Marlboro HS and Sierra is a first-year Law Enforcement student from Minisink Valley HS.     

Also distinguishing themselves at the event were Evan Janke, first-year Digital Design and Advertising student from Cornwall HS who placed third in Extemporaneous SpeakingCally-Anne Poltorack, second-year Culinary student from Monroe-Woodbury HS who took third place in Basic Food Prep; and Meghan Suchy, second-year Fashion Design student from Pine Bush who earned third place in Fashion.  

Rebecca Alpert, second-year Esthetics student from Cornwall HS with her model Emma Casey, also a second-year Esthetics student from Cornwall HS, placed second in Esthetics.
