CTE Staff and Students Show Appreciation to Local Community Partners

Partnership Breakfast Group
CTE Partnership Breakfast Group

Each May, the Orange-Ulster BOCES Career and Technical Education (CTE) Center holds a breakfast to thank their work-based learning partners who have been instrumental in providing hands-on, real world work experiences for CTE students. Representatives from local government, business and industry enjoyed a delicious breakfast prepared by the staff and students in the Culinary Careers Academy.

The purpose of the gathering was to thank the many community partners for providing exceptional opportunities for CTE students to gain first-hand experience in their chosen career fields. These employers provided students with paid work experiences, guest lectures, field trips and/or clinical work experiences. Crystal Run Healthcare presented with a Special Recognition Award for serving as an exceptional clinical partner for students in the Health Careers Academy.  CTE Assistant Principal Neal Wilkinson thanked Denise Atkinson, Crystal Run Healthcare's Senior Talent Acquisition Specialist, who accepted the award on behalf of her colleagues at Crystal Run.

Also honored were members of the CTE Advisory Board, a group of local business people who meet several times a year to assist the CTE educators in reviewing and refining the CTE Academy programs.

The Partnership Breakfast program was conducted by CTE Interim Director Paula Ray and CTE administrators and staff. Highlights of the morning included students speakers who spoke eloquently about how their CTE experience has positively impacted their future plans. The following students spoke as well as their business partner mentors:

  • Bryson Nieves, Aviation (Warwick Valley HS) and his mentor - Ryan Mayo, President and CEO of Take Flight Aviation in Montgomery, NY
  • Kevin Dillon, Electrical Construction (S.S. Seward Institute, Florida) and his mentor - Lou DeStefano, President of Lou DeStefano Electrical Contracting, Inc, Middletown, NY
