The Orange-Ulster BOCES School Library System celebrated National Library Week at its annual Great New York Read Aloud at the Emanuel Axelrod Education Center on Wednesday, April 5, 2017. Libraries and schools throughout New York State have sponsored Read Alouds during National Library Week and School Library Media Month for the past 28 years. The theme for the 2017 NYS Read Aloud was Libraries Transform

Approximately 40 students from the C.J. Hooker Middle School (Goshen), Minisink Valley Middle School, Scotchtown Avenue Elementary School (Goshen) and the Warwick Valley High School gathered to celebrate the joy of books and reading. Students read and performed favorite selections from a variety of books, poems, and original works. The performances included skits featuring works by Judy Blume, Karen Backstein, John Lithgow and Dr. Seuss. All of the skits emphasized the importance (and fun!) of books and libraries.

Linda Gale, School Library System Coordinator at Orange-Ulster BOCES, moderated this entertaining evening that highlighted libraries and literacy.  CLICK HERE for 2017 Great NY Read Aloud Program.
