Paula Ray receives Minuteman Award

On Thursday, March 30, members of the local National Guard came to the Career & Technical Education Center to honor Interim Director Paula Ray for her initiative and support of the National Guard and their efforts to educate CTE students about the benefits of service to the United States. Ms. Ray was awarded the Minuteman Award which represents a historical symbol of our nation’s founding fathers’ dedication to worthy and just causes.  The Minuteman statuette represents the National Guard’s lineage of ordinary people who in time of crisis or unrest, laid down their plow shares and grabbed their rifles to march off to defend our nation. All citizens who provide exceptional service in support of the National Guard are eligible for the award.

Ms. Ray has promoted an environment of cooperation between the National Guard and the Career and Technical Education Center that, according to Major Julie Bradley, National Guard Commander, "is unparalleled by any of the thirty-seven BOCES across New York State." Ray was one of the three award recipients in New York State.

On hand to present Ms. Ray with the award were Major Bradley; Sergeant First Class Erin Martin, Section Chief; Staff Sergeant Adam Rivera, Middletown Station Commander; and Specialist Brian Morris, Junior Recruiter. BOCES central office administrators Deborah McBride Heppes, Assistant Superintendent for Finance, and Terry Reynolds, Assistant Superintendent for Instruction, as well as Ms. Ray's colleagues attended the presentation.

CTE students who celebrated Ms. Ray's recognition included Matthew Olivet, (Pine Bush HS) US Air Force, MOS (military occupational specialty)-TACP Tactical Air Control Party special operations; Jerica Rivera, (Middletown HS) US Navy, MOS-hospital corpsman/nurse; Joseph Alouisa, (Pine Bush HS) US Army, MOS-Supply; Brittany Stambaugh, (Cornwall HS) US Marine Corp-MOS open; Kaley Cabe, (Pine Bush HS) US Army-MOS infantry; and Victoria Cassidy, (Washingtonville HS) Army National Guard-MOS human resources specialist.
