About Us
Boards of Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES) were created in 1948 by the New York State Legislature. They were created as a partnership with local school districts and the State Education Department. As an intermediate unit, the BOCES serves both the needs of its component districts and the office of the Commissioner of Education at the State Education Department. There are presently 38 BOCES across New York State.
The BOCES serves its component school districts through its mission statement in the provision of educational and business services more economically than could be provided.
The Orange-Ulster BOCES is comprised of 17 component school districts representing 92 buildings, 5219 staff and 63,400 students. The main campus is located in the picturesque Hudson Valley on Route 17M just south of Goshen, New York and has satellite sites throughout the County.
The Orange-Ulster BOCES is governed by a seven member Board of Cooperative Educational Services. The members of its Board are elected by representatives from the component school districts’ Boards of Education.
The BOCES Board appoints a Chief Executive who also serves as the District Superintendent under the New York State Commissioner of Education.
The BOCES Central Administration reports to the District Superintendent and provides the overall administration of BOCES programs and services. (Click for Board Calendar.)
